Many people around the globe, nowadays pretty much everywhere on the internet, on these social media places - you know them - reacted now after the awards but even before, regarding the accusations of sexual assault on the two women that, by the way, were in 2010-2011.
The two women who said that they were verbally mistreated and one of them grabbed in abusive way after she rejected approach, on the time when they both were working with Casey Affleck for his "I'm still here" movie-documentary-hoax about Joaquin Phoenix invented drift in career and life.
From what I read on the internet about this, the two women intended to sue him in court and after Affleck said he would countersue, in some meeting between parts, they settled out of court, so he probably paid them unofficially because no sum was known. So, I understand that they dropped the lawsuit intent, and there was no such lawsuit anymore.
I don't know why the two women would retract from the lawsuit if they firmly say that they suffered from such behaviour from him ?! It's true that these kind of things are really hard to prove in court and especially because there was no clear evidence, there was no rape, but some serious awful agresive and abusive uncomfortable gestures and behavior from him.
BUT Some accusations about such behavior should have nothing to do with the performance of this role in a film now, and if he gets an award for it or not.
I say IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF THE ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSE HE DIDN'T DESERVE THE AWARD, BUT BECAUSE AFFLECK IS TOTAL SHIT WHEN IT COMES TO MOVIES BECAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK PROPERLY. HE ALWAYS TALKS MUFFLED AND HORRIBLE AND YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S SAYING. HOW THE FUCK CAN AN ACTOR BE THE BEST WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S SAYING MOST OF THE TIME?!?!
And about what i think about the accusations: it seems a little bit weird for two women in the same period of time about the same few weeks of working together, to just lie about something like this. He didn't sexually raped them but there are accusations of awful shitty behavior towards women, in some circumstances that would fit, all sleeping over night at his house after a ong day of filming and stuff.. That is not as bad as rape but I tend to think that Casey Affleck really is a scum bag in treating women or at least can be at some times even if maybe he is not like that all the time.
I don't know the truth, none of us do, but we can read between the lines, interpret his responses, and facts we do know and make an opinion, but I really don't think that those accusations that were settled out of court should matter on the receiving or not of an award 7 years later.
